Our Story

Nuts for Birds LLC was born from a simple love of birds and a deep respect for the natural world. Based in New Jersey, we started with a mission to make bird feeding more joyful, more convenient, and kinder to the planet. What began as a passion project has grown into a small business dedicated to crafting gourmet bird seed cakes and handmade feeders that birds love — and that you can feel good about.

Meet Matthew — The Heart Behind Nuts for Birds

Matthew is the inspiration behind our business! Matthew has Type 1 Diabetes, Hashimoto's, Celiac, Autism and Anxiety. He has been fighting an uphill battle since we almost lost him at 13 months to DKA with brain damage when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

He has his Associates in Science from Brookdale and up until December of 2025 was working part time in retail since he turned 18. Unfortunately, his medical conditions and autism have made working a part or full time job just about impossible for him last year — even with support. It was heart breaking to hear him say he was worthless, not a value to society, and watch him fall into a deep depression after countless failed interviews.

That's when I started thinking outside the box: what interests Matthew, what knowledge can he share with the world, and how can he make a living on his time in his own unique way? This is when Nuts for Birds LLC was born!

Matthew has been involved from the beginning and any facts/info you see on our pages has been fact checked by him! Matt makes all of our local deliveries which help get him out of the house (off screens!), practice driving and navigation. We also participate in markets so that he can practice his social skills and work on customer service.

• Recyclable & biodegradable packaging — We use recyclable packaging and biodegradable jute rope so that nothing we ship ends up harming the environment.
• Sustainably grown materials — Our apparel is made from sustainably grown USA cotton, and our wooden feeders are finished with natural tung oil — no harsh chemicals, ever.
• Handmade with care — Every feeder is crafted by hand, meaning less industrial waste and more attention to quality in every piece.
